ECOFIX mixture used experimentally to close potholes during monsoon in BBMP area: Dr. B.S. Prahlad.
Bengaluru : BBMP Chief Engineer Dr. B.S. Prahlad said that an experimental Ecofix mixture has been prepared to quickly close potholes during monsoon in BBMP area.
The problem of potholes in Bangalore city not only causes traffic congestion but also leads to road accidents. To address this challenge, India’s leading road research institute CSRI – CRRI, in collaboration with Ramuka Global Services and the municipality, a pilot project of steel slag-based Ecofix technology has been launched today by closing potholes on Avenue Road near Anjani Temple in Bengaluru.
India’s premier road research institute CSIR – Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) has joined hands with the Bangalore City Corporation to repair potholes on the city’s roads. He said that Ecofix technology will be a boon for the city’s roads to repair durable roads in an eco-friendly manner when the hot mix plant is not operational during the rainy season.
How to prepare Ecofix:
Ecofix is developed using industrial waste from steel industries i.e. iron and steel slag and can repair water-filled potholes without the need for any dehydration.
No need for tack coat:
To close potholes on the road, it is necessary to drain and clean the potholes and apply tack coat. But Ecofix mixture can repair potholes even in water-filled conditions without the need for any tack coat. The road can also be opened for traffic after repair. Since Ecofix mixture is made using processed iron and steel slag and specially customized binder, the repaired surface performs better than the normal road in terms of durability and longevity.
Use in other states too:
Ecofix mixture technology has been implemented in Gujarat, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Arunachal Pradesh and various states of the country and has already been well tested in terms of durability and performance.
Approval for pilot implementation:
After CSIR Principal Scientist Satish Pandey met Hon’ble Chief Secretary Smt. Shalini Rajneesh regarding the implementation of Ecofix technology in the city and discussed its implementation, she, the Chief Commissioner Shri Tushar Giri Nath, reviewed the pros and cons of Ecofix technology and approved its pilot implementation. Accordingly, Ecofix technology was used for the road pothole today.
On this occasion, CSIR’s Principal Scientist Satish Pandey, TEC Division Executive Engineer Arif and other concerned officials were present.
