Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Friday granted bail to Legislative Council member CT Ravi, who was arrested by the police on charges of using objectionable words against Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar. The court ordered his immediate release.
A single-judge bench of Justice MG Uma took up the hearing of the case on Friday. Senior advocate Sandesh Chauta had argued for CT Ravi. He demanded that the arrest of my client be illegal. Ravi should be released immediately.
Meanwhile, Special Government Prosecutor BA Belliappa, who argued for the government, argued that City Ravi’s bail application is still pending in the special court. Therefore, this application should not be considered for hearing. If the arrest is indeed illegal, a ‘habeas corpus’ application can be filed, he said.
