Ahmedabad : The state-of-the-art Space Systems Design Lab of
Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) is
inaugurated by Sh. S. Somanath, Secretary, Department of Space (DOS), Govt. of
India. The space systems design lab is situated at IN-SPACe HQ in Bopal,
Ahmedabad.
The space systems design lab is equipped with the software tools to design,
analyze and perform mission simulations for space systems. The lab will enable
space start-ups to transform their innovative ideas into on-board implementable
module. IN-SPACe as a key enabler and promoter of the space activities of NGE’s
in the country, will augment these facilities with capability to perform real time
hardware tests and evaluation.
The lab has the computing resources comprising of 16 workstations and high-
performance computing multi-core (up-to 400 cores) servers. The software
resources include System Tool Kit, Advance Design Systems, Pathwave system
design, high frequency structure simulation, 3D CAD Mach 3, Simcenter 3D space
System (Thermal and cooling), Finite Element analysis structure (FEAST) and
OpticStudio (Zemax) etc., which can contribute in mission planning to RF,
Structural and thermal design and analysis of space systems.
To use these software packages, periodic training and workshops will be conducted
at the space systems design lab to impart practical hands-on training to the NGEs.
Co-working space will also be available for long term facility usage.
Shri S Somanath, Secretary, Department of Space participating in the inaugural
ceremony of the technical centre, congratulated IN-SPACe for the initiative. He
observed that such facilities enable non-government entities (NGEs) to play a vital
role in developing state-of-the-art space technologies. He mentioned that the goal
of NGE participation in space activities is aimed at enhancing the scale of Space
economy from the present 2% to 10 % of global economy. ISRO is committed to
work with NGEs towards this.
Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman, IN-SPACe emphasized that space systems design
lab is a stepping stone in its endeavor to provide a conducive environment for the
private space sector in the country. IN-SPACe Design lab consists of high-end
analysis and simulation software for mission simulation, modeling, visualizing,
optimizing payload & spacecraft, ground station, and launch vehicle avionics.
These lab resources will help build prototypes with the least iterations, thus
significantly reducing the turnaround time and R&D costs for start-ups.

Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) is
an autonomous nodal agency under Department of Space, Government of India
formed on 24 June 2020 to promote, enable, authorize and supervise non-
government entities (NGE) to undertake space activities. These activities include
manufacturing of launch vehicles and satellites, providing space-based services,
establishing a ground station, sharing of space infrastructure & facilities; and
establish new facilities under DOS.
IN-SPACe is currently functioning with three directorates viz., Promotion
Directorate (PD), Technical Directorate (TD) and Program Management and
Authorization Directorate (PMAD) and one division i.e., Legal, Finance and
Administration Division with its headquarters at Ahmedabad.
