CHIKKERE, CHANAPATNA : Joint campaign by former PM HD Devegowda and Nikhil Kumaraswamy at Chakkere in Channapatna assembly constituency. Rajya Sabha BJP MP Lahar Singh Siroya and Channapatna JDS taluk president Jayanutthu along with several other senior leaders from both the parties were present.
He is banking on the political legacy of his family in the Vokkaliga majority community channapatna region,
He insists his previous losses stemmed from “political conspiracy”
However, the constituency presents unique challenges, particularly due to its caste-based voting patterns. While Vokkaligas constitute a significant chunk of the 2.4 lakh electorate, a sizable minority presence could sway the outcome if voting preferences are divided. Political analysts warn that if Vokkaliga votes split, it could pose a serious threat to Nikhil, which is why securing sympathy within his community is vital.
“His best chance is to consolidate his community’s support through emotional resonance,” said political analyst Vishwas Shetty, highlighting the JD(S)-BJP campaign’s increasing reliance on emotional narratives.
.’Proven track record’
On the other side, Yogeeshwara is leaning on his extensive local connections and proven track record of development initiatives. A prominent figure in Channapatna, he is reasserting his dedication to fulfilling past promises. “The people of Channapatna know my work and commitment. I have been here for wears, and my track record speaks for itself,” Yogeeshwara says during rallies.

*Mekedatu DK Shivakumar should first convince the DMK; getting central approval is our responsibility*
Ramanagara: In response to the statement by Deputy CM DK Shivakumar that he has donated 25 acres to a school, Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy sharply questioned, “Is he a descendant of a king to give away so much land?”
He made this remark while speaking to the media in Mukunda village amidst the election campaign in the Channapatna constituency.
“Where has he given land? Has he given 25 acres? If he has, let him present the records to the people—I would be happy as well. There should be a limit to false claims. I haven’t put up boards saying, ‘I did this or that,’ as he does. But the people know how much development I have contributed to the state’s education sector,” he added.
*”Notice my contributions to education”*
“Before I became CM, how many colleges and high schools were there in the state? And how many were established during my 20-month tenure? The records will show it, anyone can check. What is this person’s contribution to the education sector? Let him list what he has achieved as MLA of Kanakapura, minister, and deputy CM. Despite being in power for so long, why does he not receive a lead in his own native Doddaalahalli? We don’t know if he donated 25 acres or just 25 guntas. I work as a public servant,” Kumaraswamy said.
*”We never said we’d pull out groundnut plants; we said we’ll uproot the government”*
When reporters brought up DK Shivakumar’s comment that “uprooting the government” does not mean pulling out groundnut plants, Kumaraswamy clarified, “We never said we’d pull out groundnut plants; we said we’d uproot the government itself. The people want this corrupt government uprooted. Deve Gowda only voiced the people’s sentiments.”
When asked about DK Shivakumar’s remark that if given permission for Mekedatu, they would build a dam in just three years, Kumaraswamy responded, “First, let him convince his ally DMK. It’s our responsibility to get central approval. His ally is sitting there with objections—let him first address that.”
“Nikhil’s victory is certain”
The people of the Channapatna constituency are favoring NDA candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy. They have observed the work of the Congress candidate who has served five terms under different parties. Now a young candidate is contesting, and the people are saying, “Let’s give him a chance,” Kumaraswamy mentioned.
“I, too, have visited 122 villages this time. Nikhil has covered 190 villages. Deve Gowda and BJP leaders are also working together to counter the Congress. Thus, Nikhil’s victory is certain,” the minister stated.

*“The deal was made three months ago!”; HD Kumaraswamy on Yogeshwar jumping ship from BJP to Congress*
Channapatna/Ramanagara: Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy claimed that the arrangement for CP Yogeshwar to join the Congress party was already set during the time of the Lok Sabha elections.
Campaigning in the Bevuru Mandya village of the Channapatna constituency, Kumaraswamy said, “Yogeshwar was with us during the Lok Sabha elections only in name; mentally, he was already with the Congress. He deceived both JDS and the BJP leaders.”
Kumaraswamy further explained, “Initially, Yogeshwar claimed he was willing to contest from any party, under any symbol—be it JDS or BJP. He even told the media as much. Later, we asked him to contest as a JDS candidate. BJP national president JP Nadda told him to contest from his own party, and we respected that advice. But then, Yogeshwar changed his stance suddenly,” Kumaraswamy said.
“In the end, Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, along with several other leaders, insisted that he should contest as a BJP candidate. Even Dr. C N Manjunath came forward and advised him to contest under the BJP ticket. However, Yogeshwar, who had already struck a deal, abandoned this and swiftly jumped to the Congress”, Kumaraswamy concluded.
