It is difficult for workers. Therefore, They are presenting many more issues before them, demanding that FAIR WAGES be fixed for their livelihood.
Demands:
1. The Asia Floor Wage Alliance [AFWA] has demanded a living wage of Rs 33,920 per month for garment workers in India. CITU, India’s central union, is also demanding a minimum wage of Rs 31,000 per month for workers. Garment workers in Karnataka have endured low hikes for nearly 6 years without any increase in their wages. SMT. P.H. Yashoda chief secretary of Munnade “Every time the government comes forward to increase the minimum wage act and the annual allowance, the garment industries with false interpretations and false claims mislead the government that the textile industry is in distress and loss and prevent wage revision. Due to this, the government has also yielded to this pressure and has been withholding the increase in the annual severance allowance for reasons known to it she said.. Also, it is doing injustice to lakhs of workers by not doing the salary increase which is revised every 5 years. They are demanding that this be corrected immediately. The living conditions of millions of workers have been exacerbated by the government’s backdoor game of wage revision, which has exacerbated the vulnerability of their economic problem: pushed them further into poverty. To resolve this issue They demand that their ganization pay at least Rs 25,000 per month to ensure remedial measures for fair and timely wage hike. In 2016-17 d average salary of garment workers was Rs 9,000 and it is only Rs 12,223 in 2024, but inflation was 3.15% in 2016-17 and it is now 7.57% in 2024. This increase in food prices is 3 to 4 times and now it is 10.55%. We also demand that an Advisory Council should be formed for wage revision vis-à-vis inflation and genuine trade unions should be identified as representatives of workers in the garment industry and made members of this Advisory Council.
