DhruvAdvani was inspired from a young age towards the profession of Doctors, by his grandfather – a cardio surgeon and general medicine specialist who runs his home clinic in Gujarat. His aunt is a Doctor as well, a neuro physician. Early experiences of seeing them serve people, Dhruv too was keen on a service-oriented career. At V-th grade, he was inclined to studying biochemistry or biology in future and later as his interest grew in Biology, he decided to pursue medicine. Dhruv wants to obtain a specialization in neurology or oncology and aims to study at IISC in the MD PhD program to go into cancer research.

Dhruv joined Aakash in Class X for a three-year course and attended online classes during the first year due to the pandemic. He sat for ANTHE that was on the same day as an Olympiad test, while having fever. He has also cleared National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) and Kishore VaigyanikProtsahanYojana (KVPY) exams during Class X. Even after NEET, Dhurv has plans to sit for the Orientation cum Selection Camps (OCSC) exams for the national Olympiad.

His parents are established in the corporate sector, both holding PHDs from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B). His father is the Managing Director at PWC India, one of the big fours. His mother in currently transitioning to a new job. Dhruv’s younger sister has played a major role in keeping him relaxed and positive during the preparation phase. She studies in Class X and has recently joined Aakash. His parents were supportive of his decision, however they did not want him to start coaching too early as he was already a very good student.

Speaking about his journey, Dhruv says, “I did not know the purpose of the test our Biology teacher from Aakash BYJU’s asked me to give one day. I got into the CoE just as offline classes resumed and it was a great deal to have a like minded peer group and excellent teachers. Our online classes were interactive too, but it often left me lethargic, not wanting to do anything after. I was a day scholar throughout the two years and had friends to share with. The competition did not set in during the online classes so we could all become friends when we met, which was the best part.”

In the first test at Aakash BYJU’s he scored 680 and had no idea if that was a good score. He thought he had to always score 720. “I spoke to the teachers and my parents to realize that if it’s hard, it’s hard for everyone and I am not alone. So, I chose to always give my best and remained steadfast to learn from each test instead of being bothered about getting full marks.”

Dhruv believes in fitness as a crucial factor to success. Even on days when he did not feel like studying, he played sports like basketball or went for a run, as routine activities. He adjusted well to the transition back to offline classroom and did not have the time to feel lethargic. “I never had a set schedule. With school in the mornings, it was more mood-based studying for me. We gave FTs every two weeks, and after each one I did not study for a whole day but went playing.”

Self-motivation and discipline of eating and sleeping on time helped him stay focused.  His sister has a special effect on people to calm them down when stressed and Dhruv says it makes her a great candidate to pursue psychology in future. They are very close, and Dhruv does not spend a day without speaking to her, which also helps him relax.

At Aakash BYJU’s, he was impressed by the study packages that he had seen among friends which convinced him to join. “The teachers were amazing. Due to the flawless teaching of concepts, I understood everything in the class itself. Instant doubt clearance and not keeping things pending helped me take it easy. My concepts were so clear that I only revised certain things when I felt like. I also met an incredible group of peers where we could be inclusive and share doubts freely without competition.”

Dhruv played basketball to relax when he felt too much pressure building up inside or go for a run. He also took self-care showers once a week to relax for half an hour under warm water. He also likes taking power naps.
