SENIOR CITIZENS COME TOGETHER TO PERFORM THE CITY’S FIRST SENIOR CITIZENS FLASH MOB

Aimed towards building awareness on positive ageing and break stereotypes around ageing

Bangalore : Bangalore witnessed a first-of-its-kind activity where senior citizens came together to perform a flash mob at busy public locations. Nine enthusiastic senior citizens came together to break stereotypes around ageing. The act was organised to spread the message of positive ageing and celebrate life after 60.
The concept of positive ageing is unknown to many people. As one gets older, negative connotations of loneliness and deteriorating health start seeping in. It is Columbia Pacific Communities’ continuous effort to propagate the message of positive ageing and banish age-related stereotypes through clutter breaking activities such as this.

Adding to the Christmas fervour, seniors clad in red and wearing Santa caps grabbed the attention of passers-by in the evening with their impressive dance moves to the 1950s favourite Christmas song, Jingle Bells Rock. They performed at spots that usually attract a large number of festive shoppers and evening revellers such as Church Street and Brigade Road.

Commenting on the initiative, Piali Dasgupta, Vice President, Columbia Pacific Communities said, “This Christmas, we wanted to do something special in the city. Something that would not just elevate the spirit of joy that grips the city during this time but also help us take the brand message of positive ageing forward. A Christmas special flash mob with senior citizens had never been done before and the initiative seemed like the right conversation starter around positive ageing. We wanted to take a fun, unique, engaging approach with a great deal of mass appeal instead of being preachy for the message to have a deeper impact.”

Enjoying life at 60, Anil Malhotra, a participant of the flash mob said, “More than a fun-filled activity, with this performance, our aim was to reach out to one and all in society with the messe that ‘age is no barrier’. We want to inspire more people through this act. I rehearsed for more than eight hours over the last week with my friends enjoying every bit of it. I don’t believe in the stereotypical retirement life. I thank Columbia Pacific Communities for giving us an opportunity to wear our dancing shoes again and bring forth the important message that age is just a number.”
